Can You Prevent Gout By Drinking Coffee?
Drink coffee and prevent gout? What? That sounds like someone talking who’s had too much Starbucks! How could that be right? However, a 12 year study done involving 46,000 men showed promising results. Results reported in the online Health Day (News for Healthier Living) state that men who drink 4-5 cups of coffee daily have a 40% less chance of developing gout. Drinking 6 or more cups resulted in a 60% reduced risk!
Caffeinated coffee showed the best results and Health Day reports that coffee has a strong antioxidant called phenol chlorogenic acid which is attributed to lowering the risk of gout. This is not to discount the possible problems associated with drinking that much coffee.
Coffee lovers rejoice! Another reason to enjoy that cup of java. While drinking coffee is not the only thing you can do to prevent gout, the stats are a pretty convincing argument!
